Our Story

A few years ago, Bob and I were reflecting on the spirit of the Cle Elum/Roslyn area. We saw a community that carved out its own unique culture – rugged independence combined with a gritty “get ‘er done” attitude where neighbors take pride in helping one another. It was then that we developed a vision for community radio – I mean, how could Roslyn and Cle Elum “not” have its own radio station to share and amplify this great Rebel spirit?!

Assembling the team, the engineering, and lining up initial funding from local businesses and individuals felt straightforward compared to navigating federal, state, and local licenses and permits—but we pushed through and “got ‘er done”! Bob did an amazing job at crafting the Rebel theme and a professional sound that channels our community spirit, and I couldn’t be more proud of the team and the results.

Okay Cle Elum/Roslyn/Ronald – we have a community radio station – shape it, grow it, have fun and make it your own!

– Kevin Silver

My wife’s family has been a part of the Cle Elum community for 6 generations and my exposure to this mountain lifestyle started with many camping trips in the early 80s. It didn’t take long to appreciate that this town was built on tough survivors, loyal neighbors and folks with pride in their hometown. There’s a rebel spirit here that’s just part of the fabric of this community. I think we all feel it and that’s why we named your new station Rebel 92.9!

When it came to choosing the musical format for Rebel 92.9 FM, it needed to reflect the people of our hometown. It had to be authentic, diverse, and deeply connected to the roots of American music.

It’s a unique mix that I describe as Todays Americana. I think it really honors the heart of the community with artistic integrity, musicianship and emotional narratives over commercial trends. These are the musical storytellers, blending classic and contemporary artists from country, classic rock, folk and blues. Enjoy!”
